This week, the team at Hog Roast Market Harborough were once again involved in assisting with a charity event. We were contacted by Lucy a local who wanted to raise money for various charities by organising a fun run of five kilometres. She asked us to provide our famous Hog Roast to the brave runners as they crossed finish line, and we of course agreed!
The event took place on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and there were over 120 expected to race. A few hours before the starting pistol was fired, our team from Hog Roast Market Harborough arrived and set up their Hog Roast equipment, as well as a gazebo and serving tables, before butchering the hog and placing it on the machine to roast. Today we would be serving the glorious hog with crusty bread rolls and a selection of sauces, known affectionately as our pigs in buns. While the meat cooked, the chef set to work slicing buns of crusty bread, and our catering assistant helped out the organizers who were struggling to assemble their own gazebo.
Eventually, with the racers poised and ready to go, the starting pistol was fired. Everybody set off nice and easy, remembering that today wasn’t about winning a race, but completing the journey for a noble cause. The runners were a mixed bag. Some were seasoned joggers who found it easy, and others found it a little more difficult, however each and every one of them was treated to a free Hog Roast when they crossed the finish line, and as our chef served, our catering assistant roamed the crowd and handed some pigs in buns out, to save people queuing.
In the end the fun run was a huge success that raised well over a thousand pounds for a number of causes. The team at Hog Roast Market Harborough were glad of the opportunity to give something back, and were delighted that everybody enjoyed their well-earned pigs in buns after the race.
